The lower campground is electric only but is nicely situated on chalk creek. Chalk creek runs through the campground but not near the campsites with full hookups unfortunately.

Visitors can access the area by traveling on highway 285 from either buena vista or salida. Length 2 7 mi elevation gain 593 ft route type out back. From buena vista travel south on highway 285 for approximately 7 miles then turn right on county road 162. Experience the very best camping.

Dogs are also able to use this trail. The trail is primarily used for hiking and snowshoeing. Chalk creek is a 2 7 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near leadville colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. You do have to walk up the hill to use the pay showers odd for a full service rv park and the lower bathrooms resemble outhouses but they are fully plumbed.

There s a nice open space down there although us 285 is above you so some road noise. The chalk creek canyon is one of the valley s most popular areas. The campsites are a bit small but level and the campground people rake and clean each campsite between tenants. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained you just have to pay for showers.
