How to check an engine code.
Check engine light on jeep wrangler but no code.
While it is nifty that jeep has included a built in code reader it cannot be used to manually reset the check engine light.
Try as we may to keep our jeep vehicles running in perfect condition odds are the vehicle will throw a code and light up the check engine symbol at some point along the way.
Insert key into the ignition.
Most frequently the software errors stem from a low level obd reader being used.
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position for about five seconds.
For jk wranglers checking the engine code is a relatively simple task.
One main reason that a check engine light comes on with no code being stored is that there is a software error.
The engine warning light will flash and then turn off.
Basically what this means is your jeep s computer has detected some sort of problem with a part or system on the vehicle and is letting you know via the malfunction indicator light check engine light.
The connector may have a removable cover.
Connect scan tool to the 16 pin data link connector dlc located near the steering column.
Step 2 replace faulty component s after gathering the stored fault code s and properly diagnosing the source of the problem proceed with replacing the faulty component s.
When retrieving jeep check engine light codes with an obd ii scan tool proceed as follows.
Turning the key 3x tells the obd on board diagnostics computer there has been 3 bad runs with the same error and it throws out a code on the instrument panel.
If you drive a jeep wrangler jk you can check engine fault codes by inserting the key into the ignition and turning it 3x to the run position without starting the vehicle.
But an o2 sensor code will surely show up in a diagnostic test.
And the tricky thing with the o2 sensor is that the car will continue to drive well so you might want to dismiss the light.
Turn to on position without starting the jeep.
Just complete the following steps.
Replace the positive clamp to the positive battery terminal and tighten the bolt with the wrench.
Push the key in and turn it to off and then to on three times leaving it in the on position.
